Ever thought about who actually supplied and installed the roof that is ‘literally’ over your head at places you may have stayed such as the Pegasus Hotel in Guyana, Tobago Plantation in Tobago, Secret Bay Resort in Dominica, Sandals Resort in Grenada, Marriot Ocean Club in Aruba – many persons may not know that T&T’s very own manufacturing company, Lifetime Solutions is responsible for supplying and installing the roofs of these hotels and resorts located in the Caribbean region. Winner of “Manufacturer of the Year 2016”, in the medium sized category at the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturing Association’s annual Awards Ceremony, Lifetime Solutions has indeed made its mark on T&T’s Manufacturing Business Sector. The company has a substantial local and export portfolio; supplying and installing roofing throughout the Caribbean – as far north as the Bahamas and as far south as Guyana. e TecK is very proud to be the landlord of this accomplished company at our O’Meara Business Park. e TecK had the opportunity to interview, Mr. Robert Costelloe, founder and Managing Director of Lifetime Solutions to find out more about his company’s journey in the sector.
“The company was established in 1985 as Lifetime Roofing Limited, at that time, we specialized in the manufacture and installation of roofing products for both steep slope and flat roof applications. Over the years, Lifetime expanded its operations to provide downstream products associated with roofing such as guttering, insulation, framing, soffits and steel fabrication. In 1992, always thinking innovatively, Lifetime embarked on manufacturing its own line of roofing panel where we utilized a revolutionary concept which we called ‘onsite roll forming’ where Lifetime fabricates a proven standing seam product onsite much to the delight of architects and others in the construction sector,” said Mr. Costelloe.
Continuing on the company’s history, Mr. Costelloe stated, “In 2012, Lifetime Roofing Ltd. acquired TARMET (Trinidad Asphalt & Metal Roofing Ltd), a leading business in flat roof waterproofing with over 30 years of experience, Lifetime Roofing re-branded itself as Lifetime Solutions to become proven experts in both metal roofing and flat roof waterproofing in Trinidad and Tobago.”
It is also noteworthy to mention, that in 2013, Lifetime Solutions was awarded Trinidad and Tobago’s Contractor Association’s ‘Contractor of the Year’ Award for its Specialty Renaissance Roofing Work at Shore-lands in Trinidad. This project required the design and installation of several different specialized roofing and waterproofing systems. At present, the company offers a one stop shop for roofing related products and services which includes: Metal Roofing, Architectural shingles, Waterproofing, Insulation, Sofits, Windows and Doors, On-site roll forming, custom fabrication, professional roofing consultancy services.

When asked about some of the challenges which the company faces, Mr. Costelloe responded “Of course there are challenges, for example we have endured the challenge of not having access to a skilled labour pool by intensifying our staff training programmes, our experienced supervisors provide direct hands-on training to our workers. Timely release of containers from our Ports and the recent currency (foreign) exchange shortages are challenges we face on a continuous basis.” Mr. Costelloe concluded, “We have upgraded our facilities and reviewed our operating process to improve efficiency and productivity in response to the current economic environment. We continue to do our part as a company to contribute to the development of Trinidad and Tobago’s economic development.”
