V&S Pharmaceuticals Ltd.’s journey began in 1976 as a sole proprietorship owned and operated by Mr. Varune Persad. The business started on a very small scale with the importation of a range of generic pharmaceuticals and chemical products from the United Kingdom for distribution to some of the major pharmaceuticals. V&S would later increase their product range to medicinal tinctures and other pharmaceutical raw materials were used by the pharmacies in compounding medications of various kinds. These products were imported in bulk and repackaged to suit the needs of the retail pharmacies.
The turning point for the company came in the mid 1980s with the introduction of Benjie’s Balm. Trinidad and Tobago’s insatiable demand for this joint and pain relief ointment was fueled by its high quality and affordable price. This defining moment announced the business as a major manufacturing entity in the pharmaceutical industry. At this stage another dimension had been added to the business, that of light manufacturing of simple products such as Antacid, Creams, Ointments, Liniments, Antiseptic solutions and more. Apart from their own products, V&S also markets a range of over the counter products out of the United States of America and Canada.
Today, V&S has grown into a formidable medium sized business that has the privilege of employing over 80 members of staff. The company manufactures over 35 products, such as Rite-Aid, Muscle Rub, Calamine Lotion, Glycerine and Rose Water Solution, Honey and Paregoric Solution, Quick-Aid Anti-Fungal Cream and Repel-x Insect Repellent Cream to name a few. They are also the official distributors for The New GPC products (Limacol, Ferrol, Codol), Godrej’s Cosmetic Products and Algabo Household and Baby Products.
