Trinidad and Tobago witnessed history on Wednesday 10th January, 2024 with the official opening of the state-of-the-art Phoenix Park Industrial Estate. This milestone is the first of its kind in the Caribbean, under the Belt and Road Initiative of the People’s Republic of China.
Dr. the Hon. Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago during his feature address, underscored the importance of Trinidad and Tobago’s newest and most modern Industrial Park, to the development of the nation.
“Today (Wednesday, January 10, 2024), following years of hard work and commitment in the face of the pandemic and other setbacks, we are witnesses to the tangible results of our efforts,”
“This (Industrial Park) will not only create new jobs, but new foreign direct investment which will bring with it new ideas, new business models and new products and services. The manufacturing of new products such as these will satisfy new export markets and drive the demand for new skills serving as a catalyst for added value and growth,” he added.
Line Minister for e TecK, Senator the Hon. Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry spoke to the vision of the Phoenix Park Industrial Estate, which is in line with government’s vision to create an enabling environment that will increase the manufacturing base, grow trade, business and investment.
“The Phoenix Park Industrial Estate stands poised to become a hub of economic activity, innovation and employment opportunities for Trinidad and Tobago. This is as a result of the coordination and hard work by e TecK and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, executed by the Contractor, Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG), including several local sub-contractors.”
Also speaking at the event were e TecK’s chairman Imtiaz Ahamad, Beijing construction’s Deputy General Manager He Haiqi, and China’s Ambassador to T&T Fang Qui. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Franka Costelloe, chairman of invesTT.
Several government ministers and foreign dignitaries were in attendance, as well as tenants of the Industrial Park, representatives of the business community, and state agencies.
e TecK extends a hearty congratulations to all staff members who worked diligently on the execution of this project, especially the members of the Projects and Facilities Division and all other stakeholders.
