Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade & Industry; Mr. Imtiaz Ahamad, Chairman – e TecK (Front Row L-R) Mr. Steve De Las, President-e TecK and Mr. Charles Xiang Cheng, Founder, FCMC

Mr. Charles Xiang Cheng, Founder, FCMC shared more on the project, saying “Our project is a two phase one, with the second phase of a Trade and Exhibition Center in which buyers and sellers can transact in a technology driven environment. The long-time tradition of seeing what the product is like will still be available as sellers will utilise the Center to show their products and then the purchasing will be an online environment (using the 5G technology) to enjoy a seamless transaction. The wait time will not be long as the bonded warehouse may carry the required items and then the closeness of the Point Lisas port makes delivery to regional buyers speedy. Domestic buyers will also be able to get their purchases enjoying a relatively short wait time. I need not explain the current challenges buyers are faced with when purchasing imported items.”

“The investment and commitment by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in developing the Phoenix Park Industrial Estate, in the face of global challenges, has already reaped rewards, with FCMC being the eleventh investor, and certainly not the last, to commit to being a part of this new state-of-the-art facility. It should be noted that there are nine more investors currently in the pipeline with whom invesTT continues to engage and follow up assiduously. I am pleased to say that, despite setbacks due in the main to pandemic-related issues, we are committed to completing the Phoenix Park Industrial Estate before the end of 2022. Even while construction is ongoing and almost complete, there has been great interest by investors in the Park. FCMC is the fourth Chinese investor in the Park” said Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry in her feature address.

The Minister congratulated and thanked e TecK, InvesTT, Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China for bringing this significant investment to fruition.
